The people would leave offering to kami at shrines. To have protection Shintoists would do a cleansing ritual, in which they would wash themselves with water to symbolize cleaning the dirt and impurities of the mind. The Shinto religion does not have weekly religious service. Some may go to the shrines on the 1st and 15th of each month and on the occasions of rites or festivals.
